Dr Sophie Foster

Dr Sophie Foster is a Clinical Psychologist who completed her doctoral training in Clinical Psychology at the University of Liverpool. She has experience working with children, young people, and families across a range of NHS and specialist services, including Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). She is currently a lead within an intensive support function for children and young people with autism and learning disabilities who are at risk of inpatient admission.

Dr Foster is experienced in conducting extended clinical assessments and developing complex psychological formulations. Her therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing upon CBT, ACT, CFT, CAT, DBT, behavioural assessment, and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). She is DBT trained and is currently a trainee CAT practitioner.

Her work is informed by psychodynamic and systemic thinking, with a strong emphasis on understanding relational patterns, emotional meaning, and the wider systems surrounding a young person and their family. Alongside clinical practice, Dr Foster also contributes to teaching on the MSc Clinical and Health Psychology programme at the University of Liverpool.
